Why this matters

Most CAD designers give you a file. We give you a guarantee.

There is a specific expensive mistake that happens between a product designer and a toolmaker. The designer thinks the part is finished. The toolmaker finds 14 surfaces with zero draft. The mould is already cut. The rework starts.

We do not let that happen. Every part that comes through AMD Techlab is tested against real manufacturing constraints. Draft angles. Wall thickness. Pressure loads. Airflow. All of it, before tooling.

See how we work →
01
Zero Draft Angle
Part locks inside the mould. Ejection fails. First shot is your last shot until rework is done.
AVERAGE REWORK COST: $3,000–$8,500
02
Tank Expands Under Load
100L water creates real hydrostatic pressure. If nobody ran the simulation, you find out when assemblies do not fit.
AVERAGE REWORK COST: $5,000–$12,500
03
Airflow Dead Zones
Fan spec is correct. Housing geometry is wrong. 31% of cooling capacity going nowhere. Invisible without CFD.
RESULT: FULL REDESIGN POST-LAUNCH
04
Wrong Parting Line
Client chose it for aesthetics. We move it 8mm. Two slider actions gone. Tooling cost drops by $1,900.
TOOLING SAVINGS: $1,500–$4,200
What we do
Six services.
One standard.

Every service exists to answer the same question: will this work in the real world? We do not guess. We simulate.

01
DFM Redline Audit

We go through your existing CAD file and mark every surface, wall, and feature that will cause a tooling problem. You get a PDF with every issue flagged and the fix explained. Most clients book this before showing a part to any toolmaker.

02
Mould-Ready CAD

We design the part from scratch or redesign yours, fully parametric and manufacturing-constrained from the first sketch. Parting line defined. Core and cavity split done. Gate location specified. STEP files delivered. Your toolmaker gets exactly what they need.

03
FEA Stress Analysis

Your plastic part experiences pressure, heat, and mechanical load in the real world. We simulate all of it before tooling. Hydrostatic pressure, thermal expansion, deformation under weight. Colour-map simulation report with every failure mode identified.

04
CFD Flow Analysis

If your product moves air, water, or any fluid, the housing geometry controls performance. We map velocity fields, find dead zones, and redesign the internal geometry. Same fan, same power, 31% more effective airflow just from getting the geometry right.

3D Prototype Sprint

You send us the CAD. We print it on our high-speed FDM system for functional testing, or our 12K MSLA resin system for display-quality, investor-grade surface finish. A basic DFM review comes with every print. Physical parts dispatched within 48 hours of payment.

100L Commercial Cooler Tank Hydrostatic Validation

A client was about to send a plastic water tank housing to their toolmaker. The tank holds 100 litres. Nobody had simulated what happens to the plastic walls under that load.

We ran a full hydrostatic pressure simulation. Maximum deformation came back at 0.3mm, within assembly tolerance. If it had failed: 5,000 units moulded, every one failing assembly, and a rework quote of $6,700 on the table. Two hours of simulation saved them that outcome.

Commercial Air Cooler +31% More Output, Same Fan

The fan was correctly specced. The cooler was underperforming. The client had already launched. We did a CFD analysis of the internal housing geometry.

The simulation revealed two dead zones absorbing 31% of fan output. The fix was a single curved internal baffle. Same fan. Same motor. Same housing exterior. 31% more effective cooling just from getting the internal geometry right.

Not sure if your design needs a DFM audit?

Send us your file. We will give you a gut-check for free, no obligation. If there are obvious issues we will tell you. If it looks clean, we will say that too.

How it works

From brief to factory floor.

Five steps. Same order every time. The simulation step is why none of our clients have had tooling rework.

01
Brief and Scope

You send the brief, sketch, or existing files. We define the scope, material spec, manufacturing target, and deliverables in writing. NDA signed before we open any files.

02
DFM Before CAD

Manufacturability is checked before the first surface is drawn. Draft angles, wall thickness, parting strategy — all defined on paper before CAD time is spent.

03
Parametric CAD Design

Fully parametric 3D modelling using industry-standard professional CAD software. Production constraints embedded from Day 1, not bolted on at the end.

04
Simulation — FEA & CFD

Stress simulation and flow analysis run on the completed geometry. This is the step most freelancers skip. It is why their clients get rework quotes and ours do not.

05
Prototype and Handoff

Physical FDM or resin prototype printed and shipped. STEP files, simulation report, and DFM audit delivered together. Your toolmaker gets everything they need.

"The simulation caught what the CAD could not show. We avoided $6,300 in tooling rework because of this process."

hello@amdtechlab.com
Do I need to sign an NDA before sending my files?
+
We will sign one before we open anything. Just ask when you reach out and we will send it over immediately. Most serious product work involves IP that needs protecting and we treat that as standard, not exceptional.
What file formats do you need from me?
+
Whatever you have. STEP, IGES, DXF, native formats, PDF sketches, or even a photo of a hand sketch. We work with what exists. If you only have a description, we start from a blank file and build the DFM requirements into the design from the beginning.
How do I know if my part needs FEA or CFD?
+
Quick rule: if your plastic part holds fluid, gets hot, takes weight, or experiences any pressure, it needs FEA. If your product moves air or liquid through a housing, it needs CFD. Not sure? Send us a description and we will tell you what the risk is. No charge for that conversation.
What is included in the DFM Redline Report?
+
A formatted PDF with every surface and feature annotated. Draft angles, wall thickness map, parting line recommendation, undercut list, gate location suggestion, and a prioritised fix list. Many clients apply it toward the full CAD project and the $297 fee comes off the total.
Do you work with Amazon sellers or small startups?
+
Yes, that is a significant part of our client base. Amazon private label sellers moving from a sourced product to their own manufactured version, hardware startups taking a prototype toward tooling, and solo founders who need a single design done right. Minimum engagement is the DFM Audit at $297.
How do payments work?
+
50% to start, 50% on delivery. We accept bank transfer, PayPal, Wise, and Stripe. We do not start work without a deposit. Revisions within scope are included. Out-of-scope changes are discussed and quoted before proceeding.
Can you manufacture the parts too?
+
We design and prototype. We have high-speed FDM and 12K MSLA resin printing in-house for functional and display prototypes. For injection moulding production, we deliver tooling-ready files your manufacturer needs. We can recommend trusted toolmakers if you do not have one.
